John Woo - classic style over substance
He did Faceoff, and works with Chow Yun Fat a lot.
He loves the gun to the face - gun to the face stance.

you're talking about benecio del toro the actor or guillermo del toro the director? i'm definitely a fan of guillermo after he did blade 2. and even more with pan's labyrinth and hellboy. even mimic was pretty good too. other favorite directors of mine are spielberg, kubrick, scorsese, coppola, depalma, tarantino, tim burton, james cameron, oliver stone, ridley and tony scott, clint eastwood, ron howard, peter jackson, spike lee, michael mann, sam raimi, mel gibson etc.
