It seems like the current trend in Hollywood nowadays; The Omen, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Ocean's 11, The Hills Have Eyes, Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, The Ring, Dawn of the Dead, Amityville, The Grudge, The Fog, etc.
After all, remakes are not a new thing but once upon a time they were made by pasionate directors, eager to retell the films they loved from when they were young (The Fly, The Thing, A Fistful of Dollars, Scarface, etc).
While the occasional one may improve on the original, too many seem to be by a studio after making a quick buck.
Any thoughts or comments on what seems to be a growing obsession in Hollywood? If the studios can still churn out the odd classic then why is 90 percent of what's on at the cinema recycled garbage?!

Remakes suck. Everyone you listed. I agree with Goatboy. Its about times Movie companies stopped cashing in on old movies, left the damn superhero genre alone and actually wrote a good script for once.
You say the Hills have eyes. This the 3rd version of this story?? Gone far away from a canabalistic Scottish Highland family hasnt it. They will keep making them while people like you pay to see them!
The Ladykillers - Nuff said!

I just think my arguement is who has the right to judge that a film has lost its power and should be remade? Some films are dated but still classics (The Terminator, Wizard of Oz), others were crap to begin with and should be left well alone. It's as if Hollywood has decided that the shelf life on these films has run out and they need a 20th century make-over. And do we really need a prequel to The Teaxas Chainsaw Massacre (a prequel to the remake no less!)

i thinks its funny only recent that they have started to do prequels why why dont they start with that movie and move on
look at Saw Dont look at Cube, the first was a great film then they ruined it with sequel's and prequels

Dont look at Cube, the first was a great film then they ruined it with sequel's and prequels Agreed. the first Cube was original but the others were lame. I think there's a sequel to Ring as well. I think prequels ruin whatever your imagination has created as a back story. In the novelization of Star Wars by George Lucas from around the film came out it starts with a massive back story which is far more interesting than The Phantom Menace. And why do we need a prequel to Texas Chainsaw Massacre? I think it's far scarier that there's a guy who's mentally a child and wears women's faces as masks, who tries to fill out every family memeber role, one moment the dominating male, next the vunrable female. But it's guarenteed the prequel will be just another pretty boy slasher movie (think Final Destination but set in the 70's)

This remake lark is really depressing me. Hitcher poster advertises it as made by creator of Hills have eyes and Texas Chain saw I think. Both of them were bloody remakes. Made himself rich by reworking other peoples stuff. Its bullshit. In music an artist will usually leave it late in his/her career before they make an album of other peoples songs. Movie makers have no shame. Either movies are remakes, blatant rip offs of other movies or just shit. Like the comic book hero movies. They wont stop until they have run out of comic book characters. To me its like 1 in 50 movies released is good. Some people are just easily pleased I think. no your fussy most films i enjoy, i look at at it and think ok its time for escapism look at the new die hard4.0 total crap but everyone at some point will watch it !!! look at remakes, i think ok halloween was a great movie, i wonder what rob zombie view on it will be like !!! too many people forget these are films, mostly fiction some based on a true fact but at the end of the day its entertainment roll on Transformers .....remake ?? or just update you decide
