Current PC specs: Pentium 4 3.4GHz 1 GB RAM nVidia 6600 i am just on minimum requirements for COD4 and i guess would be hard for sof3 too, so seems that upgrading is needed. I can play COD4 demo on low settings only I will add 1-2 GB of ram but the main issue is which card to buy. Below is a list of cards i ll choose one from and next to it is the price i can get it here. GTX is damn expensive:S. I am willing to spent money only if it worth it I wait your suggestions MSI nVidia GeForce NX8500GT-TD256EZ DDR2 2DVI/TV PCI Express Video Card 157,19 EURO MSI nVidia GeForce NX8600GTS-T2D256EZ-HD DDR3 2DVI/HDTV PCI Express Video Card 267,23 EURO MSI nVidia GeForce NX8600GT-T2D256E OC DDR3 2DVI/HDTV PCI Express Video Card 225,96 EURO MSI nVidia GeForce NX8800GTS 320MB DDR3 2DVI/HDTV PCI Express Video Card 467,64 EURO MSI nVidia GeForce NX8800GTS 640MB DDR3 2DVI/HDTV PCI Express Video Card 489,26 EURO MSI nVidia GeForce NX8800GTX 768MB DDR3 2DVI/HDTV PCI Express Video Card 648,41 EURO

I would go for 8800GTS 640, it's a great card it will run anything that is out there now and hopefully for a long time ahead. When you look at cards you see that there's plenty of different manufactures like Gainward, EVGA, XFX etc. The only thing (that I know of) that is different is warranty, some have 1 year some have 3 years etc. And as you said you probably need 1 more GB ram. Hope this helps

If i were you i would get rid of that pentium 4 first mate. I currently have a p4 3.4 and a 7600GT, i took the the 7600GT and put it in my friends machine with an athlon 64 X2 3800 and the framerates almost doubled in every game we tried. Just saying that the pentium 4 that we are currently using is not gonna push any new graphics card to its full potential

All i can say is ram is real cheep at this moment the stuff i got in is around 60 quid for 2 gig (but its ddr2) If your not bothered with vista don't wright ati as there cards are quite cheep at this moment . eg 2900 Pro £164.49 / X1950 Pro £78.71 don't get me wrong the best cards out at moment are the 8800s but its all about what you want to spend as to go ddr2 normally means new board cpu card the lot and that can get expensive .

Yeah that is a good card, but 8600GT is faster. 8600GT Core Clock Speed : 600MHz X1950PRO Core Clock Speed: 580MHz
8600GT got 1GB memory and x1950PRO "just" got 512MB

Yeah def go for a X1950 pro if your not ready for vista and dx10. I was gonna go for one but didnt really want to fork out for another powersupply as i'm building a new system next year. Toms hardware all the way when you build a system

I think this could be a time to build a budget pc (not really just to prove it can be done) for around 600 quid and use it as a guide for people looking for a gamer pc on a budget as i remember a mag doing it a few years back and they were playing most new games at the time on max it just didn't compare if the frame rates stakes with the big boys .
So heres a challenge for any one interested a pc from scratch for around 600 quid . Lets see what we can get . you need case / power / memory / cpu / Motherboard / hard drive / and a graphics card now theres a challenge ....

How hot does your p4 get? Ive seen mine got upto 70 degrees and intel said that aslong as the case temperature is 38 degrees or less then it is fine.

During summer it had excited 70 degrees but we have a realy hot summer here. I dont think the temp inside my case was less than 38 degrees. I had to put A/C on all the time and keep the room cold

I'm running a Titan Amanda (slightly modded as didn't like the card that came with it so changed the fans) never had my Intel Core 2 past 40 so recommend it highly .
